Welcome to The Other Art Room

The Other Art Room offers a unique set of workshops, across sketchbook practice, drawing, and acrylic and oil painting. All workshops are taught in person, and students are offered bespoke tutoring from their individual starting points within group settings, in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Alongside her own diverse art practice, Sally is a co-founder, Resident Artist and Art Practice Mentor at RuptureXIBIT in Hampton Wick and an active member of the London Borough of Richmond artistic community. She also teaches on the post-graduate painting course at The Heatherley School of Fine Art, London, as a guest tutor.

All of the autumn workshops will take place in the front studio space at RuptureXIBIT.

“Sally is a remarkable teacher. I asked her to provide some regular private tuition after I experienced her teaching in a local art society workshop, and was very impressed by her teaching style. I had zero training in Art, and the only thing I could do was slavishly copy photographs. She has coached me to see and think in terms of tone, colour, light and emotion! To draw and paint what I feel and to abstract my paintings using a variety of media making extensive use of charcoal, pastel and then oil paint and pigment sticks. I had never drawn bigger than A4 and now draw and paint on 1.5m canvases! Throughout the journey, Sally has been wholly supportive but pushing me way beyond the boundaries that I thought I had, the mark of a brilliant teacher. I have a severe disability and thought this was something I would never be able to do and somehow she has managed to transform the way I think and feel.
